ALL THE TIME
By: Ps Eddy Chang

It is not easy to praise God all the time especially when we are in the middle of our trouble in life.

Ko Ed shares his humbling experience when he served a community in Singapore. A community of Indonesian visiting Singapore for their medical challenges (i.e. Cancer, Leukimia, Tumor)

Even at their difficult moment, they still praise and worship God. It is a very humbling experience to see how they remain faithful to God.

"I live and breathe God ; if things aren’t going well, hear this and be happy", Psalm 34:2 MSG

David said in his book, I will praise the Lord at all times! And I will not stop praising Him.

They never choose to be at their position and none of them want to be at their position. But their choice of action is what matters.

Their financial maybe EMPTY but their faith is FULL

John 9: 1-2 - "As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" Jesus answered, "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him"
  • We need to ask correct question! This verse show how a wrong question (with a wrong intention) drives wrong answer
  • The correct question should "How can we help? What can we do to change the situation?..."
  • What's important is to find what God's want us to do in every situation - Decide wisely
  • What happen IN you is much more important that what happen AT you.

The question is, how can we be consistent in following God? Be consistent to obey and trust and give thank to Him?

The key is ALL THE TIME:

John 15:5 KJV "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing"
  • Abides - remain, stays in one place, remain in God through prayers, all the time!. Then we can bring forth / bear fruits.

Galatians 5:22-23 KJVBut the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
  • Abides - in Spirit and bear His fruits. Act according to His words, all the time.

John 15:7 KJV - "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you"
  • Abides - in Him, through reading His words, all the time!.
What a great blessing!

BEING STUBBORN

Proverbs 29:1 MSG "For people who hate discipline and only get more stubborn, There’ll come a day when life tumbles in and they break, but by then it’ll be too late to help them"

I am worried, it's my mom heart condition. As result of 6 × 24 hours monitoring, the data gathered give a very discouraging information.

There is 90 occassions that her heart stops between 3 to 7 seconds. Thats massive! Which means her brain is not receiving sufficient oxygen and it may cause a sudden death. Oh God.

My eldest brother took a decision to fly to our home town and visited her. And share the data with her with the intention to convinced her to follow doctor the suggestion which is installing a pacemaker.

(A pacemaker is a small device that's placed in the chest or abdomen to help control abnormal heart rhythms. This device uses low-energy electrical pulses to prompt the heart to beat at a normal rate. Pacemakers are used to treat arrhythmias. Arrhythmias are problems with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat).

But, as expected, she is being my stubborn mom again. So far, she refuses the idea and still unable to accept the fact nor the proposed solution. We will continue to convinced her and pray that God will break her stubborness before its too late.

Stubborn! The Bible records instances of stubborn, mule-like behavior of human beings on occasion. From the Pharaoh (story of Exodus) to the several occassions shown by the people of Israel, God’s chosen people, who rebelled against God over and over, turning away from His love and protection. In fact, the Hebrew word translated “stubborn” means “turned away, rebellious, and backsliding.”

We see more examples of stubbornness in New Testament, like when Jesus healed a man on the Sabbath, the Pharisees’ hardness of heart grieved and angered Jesus. Instead of praising the Lord for His healing power and acknowledging their Messiah, the Pharisees’ rebellious hearts caused them to try to kill Him

But none of the story that relates to stubbornness had a happy ending.

I am worried for my mom and humbly pray for her and ask Holy Spirit, then loving guardian, God Himself, to break her stubbornness. And to guide me and my siblings with wisdom, patience and perseverance in serving and hopefully convince her to take the correct decision.

This make me question myself as well, am I like her when come to following God's word? Sadly I think I am. There are so many occassions that I still failed to stop being stubborn.

Forgive me oh Lord, bless me Holy Spirit,
May I be able to keep my path in Your ways,
All the time, everytime.

Holy Spirit, God, please break my and my mom stubbornness. Amen!

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

MYSTERY MIRACLE

Mark 9:23 - And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”

It was Subang cell group night. It is already a kind of miracle that we had our old friend attending and even suggesting to have our meeting at his home. Praise be to God.

Praise be to God, every meeting always gave us a kind of blessing. Just like tonight.

Starting with the sharing about how God seems to show His magical talent by transporting a car to avoid a bad accident for one of our brother (in human mind it would definitely a crash).

To the great discussion about why things happen the way it happened in the world (i.e poverty, failed mariage, rich and poor, healthy and sickness)

For me, all of these is just the mystery miracle of our great God. Our brain is just to small to comprehends the greatness of God.

As He said, all things are possible if you believe. And I always believe that He will make all path straights according to His time.

There will always be things that we could not understand. Just like when Jesus disciples asking Him about the person who is blind from birth. Is it because of his sin? Or his parent sins?

And as Jesus answered his disciples, the same answer applies to all our question about why things happen the way it, "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him"

Indeed, the world is full of its wickedness. That is why things happen the way it happened on earth. It is not because of the man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in every happenings.

That God maybe glorified. And all He asked of us is to believe and be faithful.

What a night, what a blessing. Another mystery miracle happened.

JUSTIFIED OR CONDEMNED

Ephesians 4:29 - "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear"

I met a young man today and he shared his concern about how he felt that he is being bullied by his friend. Not physically but mentally.

From the gossip said about him, to the words being said to him. Those corrupted words that the other person seems feels light and maybe taken it as a joke. But, no they are not appreciated by the young man.

He felt hurt and he felt harrassed by the words used and the tone being directed to him. He realized he was bullied.

I think that is why James reminded us on his book, James 4:11-12 "Do not speak evil against one another, brothers...."

Speaks evil, is (for me) the corrupting words that is not building up others but instead sucking their spirit and energy out from them. Speaks evil, is the verbal bully.

Let us take a step back and review ourselves, our words, our habit.

Does the words from our mouth encourage others? Or do we find faults on others?

Does the words from our mouth motivates others? Or draines others?

Matthew said in his book chapter 12:37 - "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned"

So which one are you?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Numbers 6:24-26 "The LORD bless you, and keep you; The LORD make His face shine on you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance on you, And give you peace."

Why we celebrate birthday? Do you know that at early days, the Christian Church considered birthday celebrations evil for the first few hundred years of its existence. Around the 4th century, Christians changed their minds and began to celebrate the birthday of Jesus as the holiday of Christmas.

How powerful is that? Even on the day He was born, Jesus already uplifted the tradition.

Anyway, it is Elsye's birthday today. And as usual  we celebrate it with a very humbling way. A cake and a photograph.

Call me lazy, call me old, call me un-romantic. But I never fancy a birthday party or events. For me, everyday is a new day, a birthday and let us rejoice in it.

Sometime I was thinking, why we never celebrate our baptism day? The day that we accepted God, the day that we were reborn and take part as the family of God.

Isn't it something more meaningful than physical  birthday?

1 Peter 3:21 - "Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ"

But anyway, who am I to ask all these? I may be just a confuse man. After all a birthday celebration brought happiness to the person, the people around and even the community. And happy heart is a medicine.

So, why not?

Happy birthday Elsye. God bless.

Another day full of blessing.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

John 8:12 "Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life"

I attended a HR forum today which touching a subject of compensation and benefits. About the current trend of companies in managing compensation and benefits in Asia.

It was a very fruitful session and gave a new creative ideas that I may bring to DHL when possible.

This topic is considered as one of important aspect of employee retention in every organization.

Not only that, it is also seen as one of the key factor in attracting good talents. The better the compensation and benefits, the more attraction it will bring to market talent.

I was thinking, what are the compensation and benefits that we can present as the follower of Jesus, as a Christian?

I am beyond estatic, it is just too much if we want to think about the benefits of being with Jesus:
  • John 8:12 says we will not walk in darkness;
  • John 14:27 says we will receive the ultimate peace, the peace from God;
  • John 15:10-11 says we will be full of joy;
  • Psalm 4:8 says we will lie down and sleep and dwell in safety

And many more!!

As I plan to bring the ideas I learned from the forum to my work place, I also hope I can bring all these benefits of being followers of Jesus to wherever I am planted.

After all, none of the leader in every company we work for will die for us, but He gave his life so we can life. What else is greater than that?

AMBASSADORS

2 Corinthians 5:20 "Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God"

I received below email from Human Resource Magazine:
----------------------------
Dear Sik Kwang,
Hope you are doing well. I am getting in touch with you as I am representing Human Resources Magazines invite you to participate guest panellist in HR Tech Interactive 2016 which will be held in Aloft KL on 6 September 2016.

In view of  your reputation,  we would like to invite you to contribute as guest panellist in the following panel: Panel Discussion: Integrating new technology in HR functions to drive excellence
-------------------------------

It took me a while before I finally said yes to the invitation. After aligning myself with my boss and other senior management, we all agreed that I will represent DHL IT Services on the event as guest panellist. I am the ambassadors.

Even though the event is in September, I felt the pressure even now! But I know I will give my best, my full attention and energy to represent my company.

I start to prepare, communicate, plan, doing research, and writing all the possible activities that will help myself for the day, for my readiness.

1 Peter 2:9 tells us that "...you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light"

Similar to our spiritual life, we are the ambassadors of God (2 Corinthians 5:20), a much higher stake! I was thinking, what preparation that I need to do?

If representing my company gave me such chilling energy, allowing me pushing myself to ensure my readiness, what would I need to do as the ambassadors of God?

Remember, we are the ambassadors of God! So, act like one!

Ephesians 4:1-3 - I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

CONSISTENCY

Below is taken from todays Sunday Service. The title of the devotion is mine (as Ps. Benaiah did not mention any :))

By: Ps. Benaiah Naresh

John 15: 1-3 - I am the true vine.

If we want to remove weeds from our garden, we need to remove it from it roots. Cutting the weeds will only remove it temporarily and it will grow again.

God wants our lives to be light for t he world. The true audience of our journey in life is not human but God himself. All the things we do may resulting to good (or bad) to human, but the real audience is God.

He is not looking into our results but He is looking into our act, our attitude towards the results.

To achieve a consistency life in God, we to understand:

1. The everlasting love agreement.
  • John 15:1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser" - Father is not only directing, but actually a worker.
  • There is 3rd party in this verse, which is the branch. The duty of a branch is to bear fruits.
  • This verse shows a commitment that our God, as the worker, commits to nurture us, to grow us. While our duty is to bear fruits, continuously bear fruits.
  • This is a holy partnership. The everlasting love agreement. Forever
  • Our part is lean on Him. Always stick our roots to Him, always remember the everlasting love agreement.

2The process of cleansing.
  • Consistency is one of an element of success in life.
  • In relationship, at work, study, we need to be always consistent in everything we do.
  • A lot of time we tend to forget that God's love is everlasting. That we as branches are good and must bear fruits and God is working to grow us.
  • John 15:2-3 - "Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.  Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you"
  • As we age or when we go through the cleaning process that God is doing for us (through His words), a lot of time we forgot the everlasting love agreement
  • We need to always stick our roots to His words!

What most important is not what happen to you, but what happen after what happened to you.

Another day full of blessing.

MODERN CARPENTER

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father" - John 14:12 KJV

It's Constance birthday today. I am a happy father. And part of our celebration we went to IKEA to check on some bed frame design, study table, etc for Constance. It's about time to refurbish her room.

The modern design of furniture always attracts me (I believe the same as others looking at the mass of human visiting the place).

Sometimes it is facinates us, to see or witness the brightness of talent modern people in this particular area. The art of carpentry goes beyond and above our, us the lay men, understanding and taste.

The simplicity of modern carpentry seems goes beyond a simple wooden chair or wardrobe or desk. It goes beyond our parents era of furniture design.

It is like the fulfillment of God's promises that  we shall do what Jesus do and even bigger. In this case not solely on the spiritual acts but also the carpentry :)

The are so much improvement or upskilled modern design when comes to furniture. Just like what we saw at IKEA today.

This reminds me on how true His words are. Before, now and the future, His words remain true. Forever and ever.

This also means we, all of us, the modern carpenter, can indeed do a bigger thing than what Jesus have done. As long as we lean to Him and not to our own understanding.

Are you ready?

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

PEACE OF MIND & HEART

John 14:27 - “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid".

I always believe in this one thing, that God is good and He will always direct and make our path straight according to His way.

As written in Proverbs 3:6 KJV -  "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths"

Or English Standard Version  "In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths".

Amen and amen.

The thing is, a lot of time in our lives, at work, at school, in business, in serving, in every aspect of our lives we tend to forget or choose to forget about His promise.

His promise that he will make straight our paths and He have given us piece of mind and heart. And that His gift is not from this world.

Although, there is nothing else on this world that we actually want or need other than a piece of mind and heart.

Some of us even spent hundreds or millions of money to pursue what we call happiness, which is actually peace of mind and heart.

We forgot that it has always been with us! I have been given to us! It was the gift from Jesus.

Stop searching! It is there in you, you, you and you. In all of us. It's in us.

What a reminder! What a blessing.

Let us pray that God make straight of our paths again tonight, so we remember (again) that the peace of mind and heart from Him is already in us and with us. Forever and ever. Amen!

STAY FOCUS

Colossians 3:2 - Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth

It is a sad day for Liverpool fans. We lost to Sevilla on the final game. Liverpool lead the score during first half of the game, but seems unable to stay focus and lost their way on the second half. In the end, the better team win.

It is not easy to keep our focus straight. It is challenging to stay in focus and keep our mind towards our goal.

I guess that is why Colossians 3:2 seems to remind us to always keep our mind on our goal, things that are above and not on earth.

The same with my work, there are so many things happened everyday which sometimes diverted my mind from the goals that I want to achieve with the team.

TIME magazine once wrote about ways to stay focused, few of them are:

Minimize multitasking
    • Multitaskers might seem superhuman, but they pay a big price, according to a 2009 Stanford study. In a sample of 100 Stanford students, about half identified themselves as media multitaskers. The other half did not. The test examined attention spans, memory capacity, and ability to switch from one task to the next — and the multitaskers performed more poorly on each test.
    • In our spiritual life, we also need to be careful to choose the best. Just like the story of Maria and Martha. And we know that Maria chosen the best.

Devote specific hours to tasks
  • Plan some specific hours to specific tasks. Avoid the blur moment. We’ve all been there. You show up to the coffee shop, the whole day’s ahead of you, but you just can’t focus for an hour or two.
  • In our spiritual life, devote a specific hours or time for some activities that helps you to be uplifted (i.e praying, reading bible, devotion, etc)

Exercise regularly
  • Exercise isn’t just good for the body. It promotes brain health, too, which is important for memory capacity and concentration, according to John Ratey, associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
  • In our spiritual life, exercise our faith. As 2 Timothy 2:15 says, Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth
  • Do your best, exercise it.

What a day full of blessing. Let us keep our focus to stay focus, on above things.

FAMILY, THE STARTING LINE

Jesus did not let him [the man from whom he had cast out demons] come with him, but said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." —Mark 5:19

I think everyone would agree that home, family, that is the starting place for everything. From born, growing till we passed away, we will always be part of a family.

That is the same message that I saw in Mark 5:19, when Jesus asked the man from whom he had cast out demons to go. Not to follow him, or serve him or be his disciples. But he asked the man to go home to his family and tell them how much blessing that the Lord has done for him.

Go home to your family!

Michael J Fox, the famous actor from one of my favorites movie (Back to The Future) once said "Family is not an important thing, family is Everything".

One of my mentor said to me before, "Managing a company should be the same like managing a family. How you act and behave in your family should be the same with how you manage your company, it's just a bigger scale". He was referring to engagement, integrity and giving your best attitude.

These few words described the deepest essence of why family is very important. Family is where we start our service for God.

Not church, not office, not reach out. All these are important but as Jesus said, Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.

What a message, what a blessing.

1 Timothy 5:8 - But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever

Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near"

It is our local office town hall and I am representing my department to present in front of our cyberjaya colleagues. It is funny how I always feel nervous when come to this session.

And I always find a way to conquered that nervousness by thinking about how it can help other colleagues to better understand the situation in the organization.

Encouraging one another, stir up one a other to love and good works.

I start with a story that expressed teamwork as its moral message. I hope it stays in everyone hearts, those who were listening to my presentation.

Actually this townhall reminded me on our cell group. On how we always encourage each other and support each other in joy and in challenges. How we are a team that focus on supporting and uplifting each other towards being a better person in Christ.

And I would like to thank God for His blessing and kidness in making today session a smooth and positive town hall meeting.

MONDAY BLUES

The commonest use is 'Monday Blues' referring to laziness one gets to get to work (as they just enjoyed 'work-free' weekends) -taken from google

Based on this, actually, there is no such thing as Monday blues, it is merely a form of laziness.

This is dangerous! We need to listen on what God's Word says about laziness
  • Proverbs 13:4 - The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.
  • Proverbs 10:4 A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich
  • Proverbs 10:5 He who gathers in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame.
And many more similar messages.

Instead we need to wake up with the sunlight, we need to beat the laziness.

He made the moon for the seasons; The sun knows the place of its setting. You appoint darkness and it becomes night, In which all the beasts of the forest prowl about. The young lions roar after their prey And seek their food from God. When the sun rises they withdraw And lie down in their dens. Man goes forth to his work And to his labor until evening - Psalm 104:19-23

Let us roar and prepare everyday as the best day of our lives. Let us be a blessing, turning Monday Blues to be Monday of Delight.

Bless us Lord with a wisdom to be delightful in every single day that you have given to us.

PACKING

Time for me to go back, to Malaysia. Time for me to pack my bag. Honestly, sometimes, thid activity makes me hate travelling :)

To think about it there is something we can learn from packing. I wrote a similar sharing back in 2006.

I realized that most of the time, we either under estimate or over estimate the size of our bag as well as the total weight of the luggage.

As result sometime we are carrying a weight above the expected regulation or simply not able to fit all of the stuff that we want to bring. On the contrary, sometimes our belongings are simple to less for the size of the bag.

This means I need to wisely choose on what I want to carry, carefully select on what I want to bring. Similar with our lives, I need to wisely select what I want to bring in my heart, what I want to carry in my mind. We need to guard our heart.

Luke 6:45 says The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” –Romans 8:27-28

What a day full of blessing. Arrived at KLIA, took my car, drive and arrived home safely.

Thank you Jesus for your blessing.

FINE TUNING

Ephesians 4:29 - "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear"

Speaking for myself, I learned alot during this visit to Jakarta. I learned sometimes we tend to let our emotions control the talk that comes of our mouths. Instead of positivity we tend to emotionally express negativity. But I also strongly believe that we are a good human being.

A lot of time, we do know that we do need to fine tune our mind and body, our spirit and soul, to the proper channel of truth and peace, to God, the source of the fruits of the spirit.

A lot of reminder the art of fine tuning our emotions:
  • James 1:19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger
  • Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
  • 2 Timothy 2:16 But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness
  • Proverbs 10:19 When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent
What a great reminder. I know I really need to fine tuned my words so it may give grace to those who hear, especially my family members.

Thank you Jesus for pointing out my weaknesses.

THE FEEL OF HOME

Mark 5:19 ESV - "And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you"

I always like the feeling of being at home. Home means being around your family or the people that you love.

This time I have more than just a good feeling being at home. But I sense the calling to share about what God has done for me (though I did not do a very good job during this trip).

I feel this year is my family Jubilee year, that we will be uplifted in the knowledge of God.

A lot of time we are busy with a lot of less important topics such as: eating, stories, gossip and so on but we tend to forget to share about His blessing.

But it is clear on what we need to do as written in Deuteronomy 6:7, "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise."

We shall talk about God's good work in our house, when we lie, sit, walk and rise!

I want that, I want to have such feel of home. The feel of God's blessing. I will remember this on my next trip.

What about you? Another day full of blessing.
