EXAMINE, HEAR AND APPLY
Job 5:27 "We have examined this, and it is true. So hear it and apply it to yourself"
I was reading the story of Job today and the closing message from Eliphaz to Job caught my attention. Eliphaz being a good friend of Job trying to encourage him and motivate him, describing all the good things God have done.
I learned 3 steps of what he said:
1. Examine
- To be able to examine, we need to observe. To observe we need to listen and see and experience.
- To examine means to better prepare ourselves for the future, to learn and to gain knowledge.
- 2 Corinthians 13:5 ESV - Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!
2. Hear (or Listen)
- James 1:19 ESV - Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger
- Proverbs 12:15 ESV - The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice
- It is very clear, quick to hear and listens to advice is a work of a wise men. To taste the good result of the examination, we need to listen and hear.
3. Apply (Practice)
- Bruce Lee once said "Knowing is not enough, we must apply". How true this is. We need to act, we need to do.
- Philippians 4:9 ESV - What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
- After all, we always know that practice makes perfect.
No wonder Job is called blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil. He is the greatest of all the people in the east (Job 1:1-2)
What a blessing.
